    Ingredients

    For the pumpkin spice shortcakes:

    2 cups all-purpose flour

    2 tablespoons cane sugar

    1/2 teaspoon salt

    1 tablespoon baking powder

    4 ounces very cold unsalted butter (1 stick), cubed

    3/4 cup Half & Half

    1 tablespoon Pumpkin Pie Spice

    1 teaspoon pure vanilla

    Melted butter and cinnamon sugar, for topping

    For the filling:

    1 tablespoon unsalted butter

    2 Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced

    2 tablespoons pure maple syrup

    Pinch of salt

    1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

    1 teaspoon lemon juice
